Hands On Charlotte's MLK Call to Service

Each year, Hands On Charlotte honors the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., by organizing special volunteer service projects on and around the holiday that bears his name. These projects not only deliver valuable assistance to nonprofit organizations, schools and other service providers around the area, but also allow thousands of citizens to reflect on the meaning of Dr. King’s life of service for today’s America.

Volunteer Projects

As part of Hands On Charlotte’s annual service event to mark the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday, HOC is organizing three simultaneous, multi-faceted “volunteer fairs” that will give individuals, families and groups the opportunity to come together in a spirit of service and friendship, thereby paying tribute to the legacy of Dr. King. These volunteer fairs will take place at three local schools, and include a range of on-site service projects, such as:

  • Inspecting and sorting donated food and clothing
  • Wrapping presents for children living at local shelters
  • Videotaping personal “thank you” messages for troops serving overseas
  • Creating bookmarks that encourage reading to elementary school students
  • Contributing to blood drives, food drives and book drives
  • Many more

Date and Times:

Saturday, January 19, from 10am until 2pm

(Note: volunteers do not have to attend for all 4 hours – this is a “drop in” event)
