Thursday Study Buddies (16+)

We, at Learning Help Centers of Charlotte, serve primarily refugee and immigrant families in Charlotte. Our primary focus is empowerment through academic support for the youth that we serve. Hands on Charlotte, in conjuction with Albemarle Road Presbyterian Church, has been a wonderful partner for us over the past three years and we have been delighted with the volunteers who have attended consistently. Volunteers from HOC have an opportunity to serve as a "study buddy" and help the youth we serve with their homework- Math, English, Science, etc. The majority of the youth we serve speak English as a second language and sometimes fall behind in school due to reading and comprehension, so apart from homework help, this is something we tend to focus on the most. This is a fun way to learn a new culture and serve a child needing some encouragement with school homework. See what our volunteers have to say at https://www.lhcclt.org/volunteers/

FAQ:

All adult volunteers must first complete the orientation process before they can attend any monthly calendar project. This project is not managed by Hands On Charlotte, we are currently seeking volunteer leaders to assist with this program.

We are currently looking for volunteer leaders to help our partners at LHCC manage this project, please contact Doug if you are interested.
