Saturday Creek Clean Up (12+)
Each year volunteers remove nine tons of trash in streams throughout Charlotte and Mecklenburg County! While this may seem like a lot, we still need more help! There’s approximately 3,000 miles of streams throughout Mecklenburg County and there’s always a lot of trash that ends up in streams after a storm.
Rain washes trash from streets into the storm drainage system that leads directly to ponds, streams and lakes. Sometimes people dump trash directly into waterways on purpose. Trash makes our streams and lakes look terrible and harms aquatic habitat. Chemicals that may be in the trash can also degrade water quality.
The November 10 project will take place in the University Area.
• Volunteers must wear closed-toe shoes and clothes they don't mind getting dirty
- Trash bags and gloves will be provided
• Where do I get my background check? (Get Involved tab)
- How do I sign up my children to volunteer with me? Remember to use the "or sign up as a Family" link and NOT the blue Sign up Button
This project will be opened up to all volunteers if we do not fill the slots 5 days before the project. Please make sure you read the volunteer guidelines before signing up.
About the Organization/Project: This agency maintains and restore good water quality condition in our lakes and streams insuring the protection of our drinking water supply reservoirs and enhancing the overall usability of Mecklenburg County's surface water.
