Speed Street 2014

Speed Street logoCoca-Cola Speed Street is one of the largest street festivals in the region, bringing hundreds of thousands of visitors to Charlotte's Center City area to enjoy a celebration of food, music and NASCAR.  An event this large generates a lot of excitement, but it also generates a lot of trash.

For the 6th consecutive year, Hands On Charlotte is proud to be organizing volunteers for the Speed Street Green Team!  Green Team volunteers help promote and manage on-site recycling throughout the festival.  Through our efforts, we helped keep more than 60 tons of recycleable material out of the waste stream!  Here are some details about our volunteer tasks:
  • Green Team volunteers help monitor the recycling bins that are placed throughout the Speed Street festival site.
  • When non-recyclable items are mistakenly placed in the bins by festival patrons, volunteers must pick them out (using track pickers) and place them in the trash
  • Recyclable materials placed in the trash should likewise be picked out and placed in the bins
  • Volunteers will spend their time walking up and down the streets within the festival site, so they must be prepared for a lot of time on their feet
  • There are two volunteer shifts every day between Thursday, May 22 and Saturday, May 24 These are from 6-9pm and 8:30pm-11:30pm.
  • EXCITING BONUS! Each volunteer who works a shift at this event will receive a free event t-shirt, plus a free HOC t-shirt, PLUS a Target Gift Card ($10 card for 6-9pm shift volunteers or a $20 card for 8:30-11:30pm shift volunteers)!
